UNbrella

We have an umbrella

model: UNbrella

That never opens

When

bullets rain

grenades hail

exploding bombs thunder

or

rockets strike as lightning

It does not matter if it is

Vietnam

Kampuchea

Bangladesh

Iraq

Bosnia

Afghanistan

or

Lebanon

It is always the same story!

But

When the

destruction

on the instructions of

hungry profiteers

is completed  

While

solemn, wise but impotent

men in general assembly

sit and discuss security and

pass resolutions without the

means to implement them

And when

the children cease weeping by exhaustion

the women stop mourning in utter despair

the men abandon hope in abounding gloom

the aged forsake faith in sheer misery

Then it opens –

Our UNbrella

to give shelter to

avid peace-makers

ardent negotiators

eager politicians

enthusiastic re-builders –

Brilliant stars from our planet!

What a shameful spectacle!

What a constellation of hypocrites!
